Traffic Update – July 2022

Kent’s roads are getting busy now that the summer getaway has begun, and so it is even more important that you plan your route, be prepared, and stay in touch so that we can help you get to your destination as safely and as quickly as possible.

The combination of high numbers of tourist passengers, increased volumes of freight and the start of the summer holidays means that all of Kent roads will be busier than normal and in particular those en route to Kent’s points of exit to Europe.

If you are looking to use the gateway to Europe it is also important to make sure you stay in touch with your operator, allow yourself plenty of time to get to the tunnel or the port and please make sure you bring water and all essential supplies to make your journey as comfortable as possible.

Dover Traffic Assessment Project (TAP) is in place with one lane of the A20 being used to filter freight traffic into the Port of Dover, while Operation Brock remains active on the M20 and is helping to manage lorries heading to the continent.

The Kent Resilience Forum (KRF) has reiterated its call for people to work together by keeping a close eye on their planned routes, the prevailing road conditions, to follow the various signs and to stay prepared for journeys to be longer than normally expected.

Simon Jones, KRF’s Strategic Lead, said: “We will be doing all we can to keep Kent moving and we need everyone to work together by being prepared and staying informed. It is important to understand your route and those places where you can take a break. I am asking everyone to follow the signs and stay in touch with Kent’s traffic information – we don’t want anyone to be unnecessarily delayed or that they impact other people’s journeys by making uninformed decisions.

“There are many ways to stay up-to-date, be it through live traffic media reports or by social media channels. Kent County Council, National Highways, Kent Police and travel operators will all be providing updates over the weekend so please keep checking regularly.

“Kent is a fantastic place live, visit and enjoy and we are focused on getting everyone to where they want to go as quickly and as safely as possible and I would like to thank everyone for their patience, support and understanding during these busy times.”
