KCC Scams Update

12 April 2024
Dear Kent Residents

This week we have received multiple reports of cold callers across the county. Criminals work in the hopes of catching you off guard so that you will not realise it is a scam until it is too late. Please continue to warn friends and family of the latest scams as they happen.

For the latest scams alerts as we receive them please add us on Instagram or Facebook.

Thank you.

Kind regards

Victim Safeguarding Officer

We have had reports of cold callers targeting Kent residents in Folkestone for spray foam removal

⛔ Cold callers work by trying to get a visit to your home at short notice. Recent reports state the callers are trying to find Kent residents who have had spray foam in their loft and that it needs to be removed as it is a fire risk and non-compliant.

Never agree to any work from a cold caller!

⚠️Spray foam insulation should always be removed by a trained professional.

We want to remind residents that Kent Police have received a large number of reports for Courier Fraud across Kent

❌ Residents receive a call from the Police and they either need to give their address for a courier to come and get their bank card or money. The scam can change from having a family member arrested and you need to call 999 or that fraud has taken place on your account.

These are all scams.

❎ The Police never telephone and ask your bank card and pin number to be collected by a courier or withdraw cash to assist in an investigation.

If a courier arrives at your property ring 999. If you think that you may have been a victim of this or any other type of scam, then contact your bank immediately, which you can do by calling 159 and report to Kent Police.

Kent resident targeted by payment scam

The resident had a phone call saying money was owed and they needed to make a payment. They made a payment of £85. The following day they had another phone call saying a warrant was being issued for their arrest they needed to make another payment.

If you get an unexpected call saying you owe money, Stop, Think! Do you owe any money and if you do are you sure they are calling you?

For advice and to report contact Citizens Advice consumer helpline 0808 223 1133.

If you have made a payment to a scammer contact you bank, you can dial 159.
